Valerie

Valerie’s passion for biblical storyweaving arises from the way the Lord has used this approach to Scripture engagement to mightily impact her personal life as well as to enable her to have transformative conversations with others.  Summarizing her experience, she says, “Storyweaving challenges me to go ever deeper in knowing God through Scripture so that He speaks into every area of my life as well as helping me to point others to Him.”

Serving in diverse cultures has enabled Valerie to see firsthand how biblical storyweaving can address issues of loneliness, depression, addiction, sexuality, singleness, marriage, and family conflict.  “I have had the privilege of walking alongside many women in their healing journey, “she says. “As we bring Scripture to the center of our conversations for discipleship and recovery, it has been amazing how the Lord has moved in such awesome ways.  Especially in missionary training contexts, I have seen how biblical storyweaving has impacted many who are either preparing for, or who have already been experiencing, the challenges and stresses of cross-cultural ministry.  Many of these participants have not previously experienced being able to resolve their struggles in a Bible-centered way without being judged, criticized, or looked down upon by others. Our approach to Scripture engagement provides the kind of safe and truly God-honoring context in which to address their deepest wounds in a healing way like only the Lord can do.”

As the first full-time field staff member of Storyweavers Global, Valerie has been involved in many types of storyweaving training.  Currently her primary focus is on Freedom Ascent (“ReViVe” in Spanish, which is short for “Renovación, Victoria, y Verdad”), and “Come and see!” for discipleship in social contexts that have special challenges.  In addition to the storyweaving training she leads for small groups and mentors women from various countries. She partners with two other ministries as extensions of her work in biblical storyweaving: she is a small group leader for Authentic Intimacy, and has been serving annually as a visiting professor for SIL International’s CILTA program that prepares Latino missionaries for Scripture-engagement ministries.

Along with her other ministry activities, Valerie is currently pursuing a Masters degree in biblical counseling through Westminster Theological Seminary.  She previously graduated from Universidad de los Andes with a degree in Languages and Sociocultural Studies, and a minor in Political Science and International Relationships; she has also studied in France, Germany, and Spain; is fluent in Spanish, English and French, and is conversational in German and Portuguese.  She has worked as an interpreter for the US State Department, as a translator in the motion picture industry, and has served in various translation and teaching roles for several Christian ministries.

As a full-time staff member of Storyweavers Global, Valerie has moved on from employment in other endeavors in order to serve as a faith missionary who is strengthening God’s people by providing training and mentoring in biblical storyweaving.  Her financial backing for life and ministry depends entirely on the generous offerings of God’s people who choose to partner with her.  Contributions to her general living expenses and ministry expenses can be made securely using the buttons below.
